**ARTICLE PUBLICATION PRINCIPLES AND WRITING GUIDELINES**
### 1. GENERAL PRINCIPLES
The *Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University* is a peer-reviewed journal published at least four times a year. The primary language of the journal is Turkish; however, articles written in English are also accepted. The journal aims to publish original theoretical and/or applied articles that contribute to the field of social sciences. Articles submitted to the journal must not have been previously published or currently under review for publication elsewhere. If it is determined that an article has been submitted elsewhere or has already been published in whole or in part, the article will be removed from the review process.
All submitted articles must comply with Research and Publication Ethics. The *Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University* follows the *COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)* International Standards for Editors and Authors.
For studies requiring ethics committee approval (e.g., those involving surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observations, experiments, and data collection from participants using qualitative or quantitative methods; clinical studies on humans; animal studies including data/materials; retrospective studies in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law), ethics committee approval must be obtained. Details of the approval (committee name, date, and approval number) must be stated in the methodology section and also cited in a footnote on the first page of the article. For case reports, information confirming that informed consent has been obtained from participants must be included. Ethics committee approval must be uploaded to the system. If ethics committee approval is not required, the *Declaration of Research Not Subject to Ethics Committee Approval* must be completed, signed by all authors, and uploaded to the system.
Compliance with copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works is mandatory, and such compliance must be indicated within the article. Permission must be obtained and mentioned in the article for the use of others’ scales, surveys, photographs, etc.
Submission, evaluation, publication processes, and communications are conducted via the TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM DergiPark system at: [http://dergipark.org.tr/deusosbil](http://dergipark.org.tr/deusosbil). The article submitted to the system must adhere to the principles, formatting rules, citation methods, and linguistic rules outlined in the *Initial Submission Formatting Template* available on the *Writing Guidelines* page. Additionally, the *Copyright Transfer Form* must be completed and signed by all authors. The form is available under the *Forms and Guides* section.
According to the journal’s plagiarism policy, only similarity (plagiarism) reports obtained through the *iThenticate* software are accepted. This report must be uploaded at the submission stage. Filtering settings for the similarity report are provided in the *Writing Guidelines* section.
Each author may have contributed at different stages of the research—idea development, literature review, data collection and analysis, writing, and interpretation of results. These roles and contributions must be clearly defined and declared. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of these declarations and for obtaining the approval of all authors. Therefore, please download the *Author Contribution Declaration Form* from the *Forms and Guides* section, complete and sign it, and upload it to the system.
If an article is accepted following the review process, it must be revised using the *Formatting Template for Accepted Articles* and uploaded to the system. The editor will notify the author when the revised full-text file needs to be uploaded.
There are no fees for submission, evaluation, or publication at any stage.
All communication with authors and reviewers is conducted via the DergiPark system or the journal's email address: sbedergi@deu.edu.tr. Authors and reviewers should regularly check the email address they provide.
Authors may submit multiple articles, but only one article per author may be published in a single volume. Other accepted articles by the same author will be scheduled for publication in the following volume.
Journal editors and members of the editorial board may not submit or publish articles in the journal during their term of service.
During the initial review phase, the editorial team checks for:
- Complete information on DergiPark,
- Article file prepared in line with the Initial Submission Formatting Template,
- Ethics committee approval (if required), or declaration for non-required cases,
- Copyright Transfer Form,
- Similarity Report,
- Author Contribution Declaration Form,
- Compliance with the journal’s *Publication Principles and Writing Guidelines*.
Submissions that do not meet these requirements will be rejected. Those that do will undergo a preliminary review by the editors and editorial board, assessing scope, journal policy, formatting, originality, and scientific expression. Articles deemed unsuitable at this stage will be directly rejected.
Articles passing the preliminary review are sent to two reviewers. If the reviewers provide conflicting opinions, the editor may assign a third reviewer. In accordance with the journal's double-blind peer review policy, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential. Reviewers have 15 days from acceptance to complete their review. Reviewer reports are shared with the authors via the system. If revisions are requested, authors must upload the revised article and a response report within 7 days of receiving the review.
Based on the reviewer reports, the editors and editorial board will decide whether to publish the article. Completion of revisions does not guarantee acceptance; the editorial team may still reject the article.
Accepted articles move into the typesetting phase. Articles not accepted are rejected. The scientific responsibility for published articles belongs to the author. Upon publication, all copyrights belong to the *Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University*. No royalty payments are made to authors. Published articles may not be republished or reproduced elsewhere without the journal’s permission.
In accordance with the journal’s open-access policy, the full content of all articles is freely available to all users. Published works may be cited provided that proper attribution is given.
By submitting an article to the journal, authors are deemed to have accepted the *Article Publication Principles and Writing Guidelines*, including the copyright terms. Authors bear the responsibility for any article that does not comply with these rules. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject non-compliant articles at any stage of the review or post-review process.

- If the data were collected before 2020,
